The website kept growing for the last two years and it started to become a little difficult to keep an overview of what is going on there, I’ve decided to relaunch the website with some more structured layout. Here it is and I hope you are as thrilled about it as I am. Let me explain the idea behind the new layout…
Obviously the the most important page of all – I guess. It should give an overview of the project, feature new blogposts and make the user want to read more articles. For me it was a big task to decide what’s important and what isn’t. After several iterations I finally found the optimal way (and structure) to do it. Clean and very reduced layout and structure, big images, easy to read typography.
My blogposts will be structured in four main categories:
- Destinations – blog posts from countries I’ve been to
- LEOs in Action – articles about activities of LEOs (and Lions) I’ve attended
- Travel Log – Everything around the project itself and side-notes, hotel or other reviews…
- Specials – Articles, blog posts from other authors or interviews with other Leos and Lions
The rest will be content to explain the project itself or document it.
Three main categories
Below the main header – which will show the most recent or some other featured blog-post – the latest post of each main category will be featured, so users will be able to find the most interesting content.
Below that all recent posts are listed in chronological order, so nothing is getting lost.
At the very bottom I’ve implemented a map which shows blogposts from countries I’ve already been (or I’m planning to go there). So an easy overview of my travel-history and future. On the right side you’ll find a slideshow of the supporters of the project. Without them it would have been harder to raise money for my trips.
I’ve also implemented a page called „destinations“ which will give you an overview of all the countries I’ve visited so far. Users can simply click on the country on the interactive map or navigate via the country-buttons to the list of blog posts related to that country.
How do you like it?
Let me know how you like the new website and how I can improve it even more. I’d be glad to read your thoughts on the new design, the content and my idea to build a LEO related magazine here on that page.
