29/05/2015. For the next three days I’m going to stay at Tocha, close to the coast and between Lisbon and Coimbra. There, LEO clubs from all around Portugal organized a pirate themed fun weekend for kids from all over Portugal. It’s the main and biggest activity of the LEOs of Portugal and they are working a whole year to make that weekend come true. Around 150 (I hope I am not wrong) children from institutions from all around Portugal are taken by bus to that place and can spend three awesome days full of fun, games, friendship and experience together with the LEOs.
When I arrived at the place around noon, members of different LEO clubs were still preparing games and the theme-party for the evening and we had some time to got to know each other a bit. The area is very spacious, surrounded with forests and lots of green space, the buildings are old but in very good condition.
The arrival
During the afternoon coaches with the kids and members of the LEO clubs arrived and were welcomed heartily by the rest of the team. Arr Arr – time for some pirate-talk!
Pirraaate Dinnerrrrrr!
Pirates are hungry and after they had some time to unpack their luggage, we had nice dinner and lots of fun together. It was heartbreaking to see, how the LEOs took care about the kids. Touching!
Evening Program
After dinner the kids came together at the main event location, which was already decorated with a big pirate ship. The LEOs prepared a pirate play to join in the kids for this weekend. After the great play the kids had the chance to see a pirate movie on a big screen. Time for chill out a bit and get lost in the pirate world completely 🙂
Even more work…
After kids had to go to sleep, LEOs were holding some work-meeting and discussed the program for the next two days. I really liked the fact, that every club brought specialities form it’s region and a large, very tasty buffet with a variety of different dishes was set up. That also gave me the opportunity to taste dishes from all ver Portugal. Jhummy!
Because I stayed in a hotel outside of Tocha, I unfortunately had to leave around 00:30 that day, while the LEOs were having some great party.
A great start into a fascinating new project and I am very excited about the next days!
